We are SOOOOOO excited for the progress we have made on our first home! These past 3 months have been crazy busy with holidays, new home, and new jobs! We often get discouraged about how busy we are and have been but looking back at these pictures made us so happy today so we wanted to share!!!

Obviously we have some storage we have not found a home for, but we were excited to share with everyone! Yes Brandon did replace all of the door frames and doors in the house. Emily did almost all of the painting. We are learning teamwork and new strengths we would have never known without they journey! Thanks for following!

a LONG weekend

July 4th weekend should be filled with cookouts, pools, lakes, and friends; but not when you are a new homeowner! We spent the weekend at our new house! The wall paper in 2 of the bathrooms, and the master bedroom is GONE! The weeds are GONE! and the cat smell is GONE! We are ABUNDANTLY THANKFUL for parents that spent the weekend with us helping us get things finished! We are so excited that things are coming along! Next on the list is priming the walls with odor sealing paint (to insure the smell stays away), knocking down a few more walls (upstairs this time) , and re-doing the hardwood floors.

We are so thankful that God has allowed us to have so many things this year! We have both gotten great jobs, gotten married, a puppy, and now a house.

We’re FINALLY home owners!!

After over 60 days and 2 extensions on our contract we are finally home owners! We got the house 2 weeks ago. We finally got the keys to the house June 18th but left for DISNEY WORLD on June 19th for a week, then had a good friend’s wedding weekend- So we are just getting started on the house!

First things first- we are getting the cat pee smell out of the house! We thought we could take care of the smell by pouring straight bleach on the cat urine but it turns out that creates a chemical reaction that could poison you in minutes, so we have googled and talked to professionals/ people who have done it before, about how to get cat urine smell out of houses and we think we have found the way!
Last weekend we tore down all of the walls in the basement, tore up the carpet in the one bedroom, (sorry I forgot to take before pictures) and power washed the basement. Yesterday we had industrial size blowers and dehumidifiers put down there to dry up all of the concrete. Today we bought Hydrocyde which is supposed to change the molecular make-up of any odor to make it not smell and we will be drenching the house in that Friday! After that we plan to rent a ozone treatment to clean the air and get out air ducts cleaned and FINGERS CROSSED we will have that smell GONE!

Withall of this rain we are getting the outside is a little out of control, as if it wasn’t to begin with. We have 4 over-grown trees we need to knock down and weeds EVERYWHERE! Also, we are starting to look like those red0neck neighbors that don’t cut their grass so hopefully we can get started on that soon so we don’t have the new neighbors wanting to kill us already!

Here are some BEFORE pictures of our house! We are excited the kitchen is mostly finished, which is one of the reasons we were able to give this renovation a try. Because, the kitchen is the most expensive thing to renovate!

May Updates

Hey guys!

Sorry we haven’t posted anything since the birth of our blog! We have had a very challenging few weeks.

House update: We were supposed to close Friday, but because its a war zone in the housing world, we will probably close this coming week or the next. There have been many set backs due to this being an estate sell, because the sellers were in no hurry to get the work completed that we asked of them. That’s okay though, we are in no hurry! We are getting anxious about the work that needs to be done and the simple things we need like a lawn mower. We are praying for patient hearts and guidance.

Living update: We are slowly packing up our apartment, which is actaully more sad than I thought it would be. This is were we finally became a family and brought our baby Penny home to. We have loved living in close proximity to everything we need, but I am ready to be back where there is not constant traffic when you pull out of your parking space. So, we are packing up too… move in with my parents! haha We are going to be living in my parnets walk out basement for a few weeks while we get the house in living condition: aka to get the cat pee smell out of the house. We are hoping for many free meals and we’re excited to have a hot tub to soak in at night!

Family update: We have welcomes another nephew into the family! Bran’s brother and girlfriend had a beautiful big baby named Aiden! He, like his parents will love camo! Grandma Fay keeps us updated with so many cute pictures!

Also, my Papaw passed away about a week ago. This has been very hard for me as I have never lost a close family member before. I have been blessed with so many years of memories with my grandparents and I thank God even more now for the time I have had and the wisdom I have gained form them. My faith has been challenged on a deeper level because I have never had any one I have one day been talking to and the next they were in heaven face to face with Jesus. Heaven is a very exciting place to think about but also very hard for our little human minds to understand. I just have a deeper faith that one day I will see my papaw again in our eternal home. I am so excited for that day. I am so happy for my papaw to be face to face with Jesus right now, but sad for us here. I have gained so much respect for my mom and aunts and memaw over these past couple of weeks, they are so strong. My memaw and papaw were married for 62 years! She will need the power and grace of the Lord to get here through these next few challenging months. I am so proud, thankful, and blessed to have my mom. Her beautiful heart has been constantly pouring out love to our family, and she has been such a rock in this difficult time.

Medical update: On Wednesday Brandon was pitching at our softball game and one guy hit the ball right back at his face, so fast that he didn’t have time to react. By the time the gaem was over his temple was swollen as big as a golf ball so we decided to go to immediate care, which sent us directly to the emergency room. Praise the Lord his CT scans turned out fine. He just had minor swelling and some drainage into his sinuses. It has been fun the past couple of days watching a black eye appear and making jokes like “You should see the other guy”

Me on the other hand, went to the urologist Friday and found out I have a 1mm kidney stone in both kidneys. I have been dealing with kidney stones since high school, but I have never known I have had a stone before it has passed. So, I just wait for that unfortunate day when they decide to move. EEK.

Relationship update: Even though these few weeks have been crazy, we still snuggle up every night. I have so much love in my heart for Brandon and I am thankful to have a hand to hold in times like these. In both the good and the bad, we love each other. Praise God that He brought our lives together and we can live in His will and in His timing, and in His direction. We thank God for our family and friends that also pray for us and stand beside us in the good and the bad.

About Our Blog

So, Brandon and I have been together for almost 4 years; and 6 months ago we had the wedding/honeymoon of our dreams! We love being married and sharing life together. The past year for us has been such a whirlwind. Emily has graduated college, passed her boards, became a nurse, moved out of her parents house, and started a new job. Brandon has taken a few months off of school, started a new job, and moved out of his parents house. We also got a new puppy. This sweet girl’s name is Penelope (Penny) poops-a-lot Kays. She is definitely a reminder that we are not ready for kids any time soon. haha. This past month we have been looking for a new home, and we have found one! This house was part of an estate sale so we are saving a lot of money, but we feel we got a great deal on the square footage of this house. Because it was an estate sale and this woman was in a wheelchair and not able to keep her house up, it’s a fixer-upper with a lot of renovations! We are SOO excited to start this adventure. We are hooked to HGTV and Pintrest and always sending picture of new ideas we have for this house. We are creating this blog to keep our family and friends updated on the renovations and also as a tool to ask for prayer over different projects we are doing. (Or help!) haha But seriously, if you want to knock down some walls, COME ON OVER!

We are going to introduce ourselves to the Blog world by telling you all a little bit about the other person.

About Brandon in the eyes of Emily:

Brandon is my best friend and the man of my dreams. He is laid-back and a complete goof-ball. He can always make me laugh. Brandon is a procrastinator, anything that needs to be done, can be done tomorrow. He is always willing to try new things- I have always been pretty adventurous and he tags along nicely haha. He is very picky about how his shirts are folded, so I make him fold his own. Brandon is an insurance agent which is perfect for him because he is such a people person. Brandon is the most empathetic person I know and is always willing to go out of his way for people other than himself. Brandon loves to shop at goodwill, but always seems to have more style than me. He has been an amazing husband for me always loving me so tenderly. He is such an encouragement to me, and a mans after God’s own heart.

About Emily in the Eyes of Brandon:

Emily, henceforth referred to as Em J/Babe/Emily is the butter & strawberry jam on my Cracker-Barrel biscuits.  She is the Miss Kay to my Phil Robertson or the Cal Naughton Jr to my Ricky Bobby.  She is my best friend and arguably my better-half.  There’s no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t be as awesome as I am today if it wasn’t for Emily keeping me alive and in-line over the past few years.  She would say I’m a procrastinator or sarcastic (which is pretty accurate), but with her organization and motivation, we make an incredibly well-rounded team.  Somehow, in almost every situation, I give her the fun and lightheartedness she needs and she gives me the push and structure that I need desperately.  As an absolute stud that’s still growing, I am always eating the great food that Emily cooks and bakes.  Em J, however, is one of the pickiest eaters I’ve ever known (like chicken and mac & cheese is it for her.)  We are having such and awesome first year of marriage.  I’m constantly learning more and more about my bride.  She is the wife I have prayed for and dreamed of since I was young.  Words cannot express how excited I am to be on this journey with Em J Kays, constantly growing in love and joy.
